In Violation!
Over the past few thousand years, humankind has regarded Nature as property. 
This concept is rooted in biblical text and has spawned generations who have regarded themselves as having dominion over the Earth. 
The feudal system was based on dominion and continues today as a land-grab mentality, based on the principles of ownership and extraction. 
Where we are at this point in time is the evolution of that concept, that biblical teaching, where we are now forced to try to manage degradation of the environment rather than prevent it. 
We blow the tops off mountains to extract minerals. 
Hundreds of chemicals are injected into the Earth to extract gas. 
The filth of Tar Sands is hailed as our energy saviour! 
Seed is wrenched from us to be “owned” by corporations like Monsanto. 
Presidents enact laws to protect these creatures of destruction from the very courts that are there to protect you! Nine days ago I started a petition.

Nine days ago I drew my line in the sand, deciding to refuse to comply with laws that violate Mother Earth and the abundance she so generously bestows upon us. 
My own line in the sand has been confirmed this morning as the decision to refuse to comply with all laws that violate Mother Earth has been made. 
The days of fence sitting are over. The gloves are off

The weather is so weird, yesterday afternoon it was almost 40 and this morning below 10 degrees. The animals just don’t know what to do. The sheep haven’t ventured out of the barn yet. We will both have to keep the home fires burning today.
Missy is such a beautiful cat and she seems very serious in today picures.

Missy looks a little serious as she was in the middle of attempting to hypnotise me, as only an older, wiser cat can do…maybe that’s why I do as I’m told by her glorious self, Lol!

Missy is a beauty!
I haven’t heard about Sam in a while, is he ok? I formed an immediate soft for him, perhaps due to the fact we have three adopted, snowy white cats (one profoundly deaf and two with partial deafness) that look rather like him. All three are pesently snuggled up on my bed as the snow falls ouside. It’s so bitterly cold here that the normally resilient village children were forced to abandon building a snowman.

Sam is spending the cold days wrapped around Che in the lodge, which is fitted with a cat-flap door, leaving Missy to the sanctuary of the cottage. She cannot tolerate either of the boys, so the geography is perfect. Sam is getting big and gorgeous…I shall include the boys in my next blog, hanging out together as they do!

The weather is very strange lately. As Carole mentioned we go from springlike conditions to Arctic cold. The animals can’t adjust. And I had lots of little shoots coming up a few days ago…it is a little scary. I think I am with Missy..it is too cold! She wants to go out to “the other outside”….the one that was there yesterday. I know how she feels. Glad you are keeping cozy. Thank goodness for wood stoves! Take good care, Patti

Sharing this weather information is interesting. The extremities are becoming more everyday. On a lighter note, the garlic I planted a few months back will benefit from the cold spell. All the shoots are now above the earth and are looking good.

My garlic came up in the fall shortly after I planted it…it is frozen in the snow now….I hope it is okay. This is my first time planting garlic. But I think it is everyone’s first time planting everything in this new climate so we will have to all learn together!

Sudden stratospheric warming has split the polar vortex in two. The polar vortex, which forms and deepens as the atmosphere loses heat to space in the darkness of the long Arctic winter night, was split in two by massive heating from below. A series of intense storms in the far north Pacific intensified a very long wave in the lower atmosphere. Energy on that planet sized wave went upwards from the lower atmosphere around the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau and broke into the stratosphere, causing major sudden warming. It rapidly reversed the strong cyclonic winds in the stratosphere around the pole, creating a central dome, breaking the vortex into two smaller vortices.
We can see the splitting by making a map of the heights a weather balloon rises to to reach the very low atmospheric pressure of 50 mb. A standard atmosphere is 1013mb.
