In a Time of Uncertainty…

www.bealtainecottage.comMuch has happened recently…to disturb the senses and worry the mind.

www.bealtainecottage.comIt is as though we have entered dark times.

www.bealtainecottage.comI will not invoke any sense of what has been happening in the world, for social media and the media in general will furnish you with all that is going on.

www.bealtainecottage.comI refuse to be a pessimist and throw my hands to the heavens in despair or anger, for my life experiences have taught me the uselessness of that.

DSCF1029Throughout life, we do best to respond to the darkness shed by others, by being creative in whatever small way is possible.

www.bealtainecottage.comSo, in celebration of creation and the power of creative minds which our education system, governments and much of the mainstream media seems to almost despise, I dedicate this blog.

  1. Collette, I know that I rail against our leaders and it annoys and bores some people, but I love this extract from the “Cuirt an Mhean Oiche”, which sums the situation in many countries and is as relevant now as it was in 18th century Ireland.

Gan sealbh gan saoirse ag síolrach seanda, 77 The ancient race without wealth or liberty
Ceannas a ndlí ná cíos ná ceannfoirt, 78 No tributes, leaders nor legal autonomy
Scriosadh an tír is níl ina ndiaidh 79 The rape of the land with naught in its train,
    In ionad na luibheanna ach flíoch is fiaile; 80 In place of the crops, a weed-rank terrain;
An uaisle b’fhearr chun fáin mar leaghadar 81 The nobles languish in a foreign land
Is uachtar láimhe ag fáslaigh shaibhre, 82 While the jumped-up rich get the upper hand,
Ag fealladh le fonn is foghail gan féachaint 83 In betrayal ardent, in plunder greedy
D’fheannadh na lobhar is an lom dá léirscrios. 84 Flaying the sick, despoiling the needy.
Is dochrach dubhach mar dhíogha gach daoirse 85 It is blackly baneful and sticks in the craw
Doilbhe dúr i ndúbhcheilt dlíthe 86 That, in darkest despair over the absence of law,
An fann gan feidhm ná faghaidh ó éinne 87 There’s nothing from no one for the purposeless weak
Ach clampar doimhin is luí chun léirscrios, 88 But a depredacious future that is hopelessly bleak,
Falsacht fear dlí is fachtnaí ardnirt, 89 The knavery of lawyers, tyranny on high
Cam is calaois faillí is fabhar, 90 Injustice, fraud and neglect apply
Scamall an dlí agus fíordhath fannchirt, 91 The law is clouded, the scales awry,
Dalladh le bríb, le fee is le falsacht. 92 With all the pull that bribes can buy.

  2. Collette, you have left some things off your list…. teaching, pioneering, resisting, sharing, inspiring, motivating… and practising with grace and beauty what you so beautifully preach. Love and light to you. xxx

  3. “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. I think you already are and I am coming up behind you. The ripples will spread. You have followers in so many places who are inspired and determined people . Heartfelt love and warmest blessings x

  4. As always, a beautiful, inspiring post. I’m right with you Collette. If wie all do our bit to bring love, creativity and beauty to shine on the darkness we see all around us, we can’t fail to make a difference.

  5. Hello, You are so so right. Attitude is everything. I love your blog, your place is beautiful.

    From me!

  6. Thank you so much. Over the last years you have kept me putting one foot in front of the other. To smile, love and care even though I have fallen flat on my face, To always get up and move forward. I love Bealtine Cottage and have strived to put “Sacred & Devine” in my small area of the world. Thank you for your inspirations. Dark times will pass, but sometimes it just takes us to do it. I send peace to you….Hugs from jo

  7. Loved your message, Collette! It really spoke to me as I am nearly at the end of packing all my things, ready to move to a new town far away over many mountains and the ocean. I chose this place because it is much smaller than where i now live and is in a fruit-growing desert region.

My plan is to start a new xeriscape, food forest/permaculture garden on a town lot. I chose the old, run-down house because it has a story to share with me, I can walk nearly anywhere I need to go for supplies, etc., it has a wonderful view across and down the river valley through the mountains on each side, and has a dry climate (better for my arthritis).

I currently have a gardening blog, http://www.fullsteamgardening.net, about how I created a box canyon garden in a trailer park. It will now be converted to a tale of my adventures building the new garden and renovating the house. Since I am retired and nearly 70 years of age, all this novelty should keep my brain and body active so I can perhaps live to 100 and enjoy the fruits of my efforts!

Reading your blog entries has propelled me along during the past 2 and a half years while I waited for the right people to come and love my garden as much as I do. When the universe decided that the time was right, everything happened within one month and my head is still spinning!

I hope you have the same good luck with Bealtane Cottage and I fervently hope that you will continue your blog about YOUR new adventures!

    • What a wonderful story…and I wish you the very best of health and happiness in your new adventure! It sounds idyllic and I am really happy to hear that Bealtaine Cottage has helped a little in focusing on and achieving your dream.
Blessings XXX …and a big hug XXX

      • Thanks for the reply, Collette! You have no idea how much reading your blogs kept me focused on my plan to once again become relatively self-sufficient, at least in food production. We in British Columbia are living in a most favoured part of the world, yet we depend upon food imports from around the world even for basics! Many of our communities have realized this fact and are trying to do something about it with relatively little help from the senior governments, which seem to want to put heads in the sand and carry on in the old ways so their financial supporters don’t lose any money.

As you have so often reiterated, it will be up to us, the people, to take up the task and to change OUR ways so that these large agribusinesses become irrelevant in the years to come.

All we need is a major upheaval (literally, as this is an earthquake zone) and our food supplies will be cut off for who knows how long. Local supplies will have to keep us going, and I plan to be one of the suppliers!

  8. Colette, this is such a gracious message and so beautifully accepted in a time of pain and mistrust in my life. I thank you for this gift of peace.
