Peace on Earth

Bealtaine Cottage before Christmas 2012

In the remaining days before Midwinter of 2012, a time much talked of as something to be feared, I have discovered an old 1939 cartoon film entitled “Peace on Earth.”

Bealtaine Cottage Christmas 2012It  is a one-reel film directed by Hugh Harman, about a post-apocalyptic world populated only by animals.

Who was to know, that another world war was about to begin?

For me, this is the point of 2012.

Events are not to be feared.

Rather we should fear the consequences of our own actions, or, inactions.

War is wrong.

Bealtaine Cottage Christmas CatDress it up in whatever flag one wants…it is, and always will be, wrong.

Peace on Earth…a sacred wish.

Here it is, less than 10 minutes long and a wonderful Christmas treat!

  1. Yes indeed Colette I agree – the propaganda machine of the media should never be underestimated. Actually aside from the film, I really liked this particular blog because of your personal mesage of peace as illustrated by the lovely images of a light in the window at Christmas time. Missy too, albeit unwittingly (perhaps….who really knows how animals think and interact with us?) as always, conveys her own special message of peace. Thank you – and very best wishes for Christmas and the coming New Year.

  2. This lttle cartoon film with its charming Disney-like animal characters, managed to convey a very powerful anti war message. One wonders if the impact of that message was made all the more powerful for having been delivered in such a ‘softly softly’ manner.
‘Less is more’ in so many contexts…..

The simplicity of the message retains it’s power even today. The year of production, however, was 1939, famous for…War! Those who control the media, control the minds of the people. Probably why this powerful little film remains in oblivion.
    Blessings to you

  3. Thank you for the link to this wonderful little film. Here we all are, almost eighty years later, still imagining world peace. Since then there have been a steady stream of individuals inspiring peace..some famous, some less so, showing way. The difference is that there are so many more of us now, perhaps we are nearing the critical mass required for peace on this little planet.
I discovered your blog (and videos) a few months ago and I am just blown away by what you are doing. Your wisdom and generosity of spirit in sharing your experience is so much a part of the way you live in connection with all the life around you. Thanks for this gift which I now pass on to others. ~ Adrienne Doherty (North of Chicago)

    Your generous words are appreciated.
It is true that we have been so inspired by the steady stream as you so succinctly put it…may the stream become a river!
Blessings from Bealtaine Cottage, all it’s inhabitants, seen and unseen.

  4. Thanks Colette, that was a great little film. From a simpler time, but the message resounds. We know what we need to do, it is the doing of it that is difficult. But things don’t change from the top down, it is always from the bottom up. As Ghandi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” That is what we each must do. That is how true change will happen. Thank you for being such a wonderful model for so many. Wishing you peace and much joy, Patti
