How 13 can Change the World.

The imposition of the Gregorian calendar by a patriarchal church, diminished the power of the feminine in more ways than one.

It altered the way in which we regard the number thirteen.

Thirteen is a highly significant female number, for the 13 lunar cycles are aligned with the 13 menstrual cycles of the woman.

Terah represents Karma in the spiritual sense and the fact that all belongs to the Divine.

Many believe that this signified the return of the Divine Feminine and have felt strangely energized and empowered since that time.

It is worth re-calling the importance of 13 in the Christian religion, at the very beginning… for it was Christ who was the unifier, the one who joined the 12 disciples to make 13.

13 is a unifying vibration, no longer to be feared, but to be embraced and understood.

  1. Interesting information…..which reminded me that I knew virtually nothing about the origin of the superstition associated with the number 13, and indeed like many others simply took the absence of this number in public buildings etc. (including the apartment building I currently live in!) for granted. As always, the pictures accompanying your blog are delightful as well as thought provoking. In this one I especially like the small leaves.

Most superstitions we carry are in some way or other linked or attributed to, the natural world.
Man has always been frightened of Mother Nature I think!
The leaves are that of the Willow.

  2. Born on the 13th of June, it has always been my lucky number. Quit my job last June to be with my family and start living more closely to our land. This year starting our sustainable permaculture garden…Your posting resonates with me on so many levels. Thank you. Peace. Love and Light

  3. Your words of late have rung the bell of awareness for me. This day here in Wis. U.S. we are getting a wonderful snow, large water filled flakes that will fill our aquifers as it melts. This being the water used throughout the midwest. I sit here grateful for what nature can give us.

Bless you for acknowledging Nature as you watch the snow and understand the benefits. Life is good!

  4. In sacred geometry calculus is the least important use of numbers. 1 to 12 represent all aspects of this dimension (ie: twelve note octave, 12 signs of the zodiac, the appostles etc) including divine influence. 13 is sacred because it signifies a step up into a higher cycle in the spiral towards divinity.

I too share a subtle, but powerful, feeling of positivity this year. I think the change we all crave is here, it’s not televised or signalled by fanfares and flag waving, it’s a revolution of heart and spirit and is unstoppable. Your wonderful work is such a example – and an inspiration -for all of us who sense the forces of change but lights to guide us onto what Joseph Campbell called “the path with heart”. If we take more responsibility for our lives (which is what freedom is all about) we can bypass more and more of the insanity of the old system as it thrashes around in it’s death throws and bring meaning back into our lives. Thanks Colette for adding to the world’s store of powerful healing energy which we all need at this time of transition.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday…

    Thanks, Lol.
Much of what I write in Bealtaine Cottage is inspired by energy that a decade ago I would have laughed at.
Change is happening fast and powerfully.
I can barely articulate the energy as it flows.
It will be good to talk on Sunday…

  5. also, 13 in gematria is the numerical render of the hebrew word for love, and for unity as well…the two words added together equal 26, which is the numerical render for the sacred glyph YHVH
i love the number so much that it inspired a poetic nonce form, and usually keep my haiku and gogyohka to thirteen syllables.
thanks indeed for sharing. think i’ll reblog this on my site, as i am preparing a short post on the significance of imbolc for the blog in a day or two.
