April 2013 in the Permaculture Gardens of Bealtaine Cottage, Ireland

April 2013 Permaculture gardens at Bealtaine Cottage

Lots of work in the gardens over recent days…cutting back, shredding and tidying up.

Grass paths have been dug in along the edges and the birds have followed looking for tasty morsels!

Buddha under the Laurel arch at Bealtaine Cottage permaculture gardensThe Laurel Archway has been given a good trim.

You can see it better in the top pic.

Laurels grow very fast and if an archway is to be maintained then a heavy cut must be carried out every 2-3 years.

All the cuttings are shredded and spread on beds and compost heaps.

  1. I have been following and enjoying visiting your three acres of perfect earth for a year now via your terrific blog and captivating video diary. It is really an inspiration.
(Especially love catching up with from Jack, Missy and Sam.)
I am reminded of Helen and Scott Nearing..the pioneering organic farming
couple of the last century who began in Vermont and continued living their “Good Life”
in Maine. I have to say…you have the energy of ten people!! It must be the life you lead… The Good Life indeed!

    • It’s good to hear from you and that you find inspiration here at Bealtaine Cottage.
My energy levels are fuelled by Mother Earth.
I breath her love and am inspired by her.

  2. Kia ora,

I have been following your posts and videos for over two years now and it has been a blessing reading about and watching your progress and ideas.

Shortly I’ll be leaving New Zealand for a trip around the UK and Europe for three months. I’d love to come visit! I’ll be in Ireland at some point in early June. My email is kylepib@gmail.com.

Very much looking forward to meeting you!

    Kyle.

    • Lovely to hear from you and you’d be very welcome to visit in early June…I keep open gardens for all who want to see and experience an established permaculture smallholding in Ireland. Tea and home made cake too 🙂

  3. Colette,
I love all your blogs but the last two were quite meanful.. I always enjoy seeing your hoop house full of wonderful things. I am placing my order today for gooseberries, elderberries, more raspberries and blueberries. I am having trouble finding a local variety of apple and when I do they are frightfully expensive, I will keep looking. Sam is a delightful cat, and Missy too!
My blessings to you on this wonderful spring day.
    Carole
