The Seed, the Whole Seed, and Nothing but the Seed!

Evening Primrose seed germinating at Bealtaine CottageI used to think there was little hope for the lovely Earth we live on…that people did not care and governments would take us all to Hell…on Earth!

That was in the past.

The Lodge at Bealtaine CottageFor several years, since the beginning of this blog, I have had the opportunity to meet thousands of people on-line.

Bealtaine Cottage Seeds from David in the USThe movement to save and protect our environment is growing with such intensity, that many governments are rushing to instigate laws to try to stop us.

Bealtaine Cottage permaculture tunnelThis is the year to save seed, share seed, nurture seed, plant seed, scatter seed, put seed inside Christmas and Birthday cards…for it is the great gift of the Divine and cannot be taken from us through unjust laws, or greedy corporations!

  1. I completely agree with you our seeds, our Heritage seeds, our children’s future seeds for their families, it is disgraceful that the EU are going ahead with this, how dare they. I for one am a complete organic gardener and I do not want to grow polluted seeds or plants for myself or family, or in fact neighbours who often receive the surplus.
I noticed the other day that a family in Sweden I believe only ate the food from supermarkets as they thought organic too expensive. So they did some tests on their urine, and it contained the chemicals from this food, they then did a month on only organic food, and on testing, nothing chemical in their urine, makes one think does it not!

  2. I do like your blog, very much. I do not like the ethos and activities of people like Monsanto, for reasons I’m sure we share. As more and more research is being done and shared freely by Agroforestry research stations world wide, I am hopeful that Monsanto and ilk go out of business. They have no idea, or are ignoring, what permaculture has achieved over many years. Shame they cannot grant monies unconditionally to the cause.
    Many thanks.

    • The results are there for all to see.
Money is power and those in power wield it like a weapon and a noose.
I feel free to explore all possibilities within permaculture and keep proving the powers that be, wrong and short-sighted.
It’s exciting and empowering and is my passion.

  4. You may have already seen this article, if not, you may find it informative. A former government-industry insider reports on the fatal flaw in all GMOs: “Genetic engineering is 40 years old. It is based on the naive understanding of the genome based on the One Gene – one protein hypothesis of 70 years ago, that each gene codes for a single protein. The Human Genome project completed in 2002 showed that this hypothesis is wrong.

The whole paradigm of the genetic engineering technology is based on a misunderstanding. Every scientist now learns that any gene can give more than one protein and that inserting a gene anywhere in a plant eventually creates rogue proteins. Some of these proteins are obviously allergenic or toxic.”

  5. Well said Collette. I will not comply. I have never saved seeds before, but I am determined to this year. The Transition group are going to be running a seed saving workshop, which I am looking forward to.

I love your posts and the pictures of your garden are so inspirational. I visited the West coast of Ireland last summer, staying at Rosses point. I wish I had found your blog before then, because I would love to see your garden.

  6. brilliant words, full of inspiration…… I will make it my priority at the end of this season to save more seed than ever to share….. I will post a selection to you for your paradise at bealtaine and love your idea of popping into greetings cards sending this message out to as many people as possible. I will never comply with such an atrocity. seed belongs to the beautiful earth it is not a commodity to be patented.
very heartened with the huge amount of support various petitions are receiving – people really do care. much love

  7. I’m having such a lovely sunday afternoon/evening catching up with your fabulous posts whilst sipping rosehip tea. I usually read every one but have not been able to for a while and have sorely missed your lovely self, gardens, cats, chickens, recipes etc. So glad to be back here again 🙂
    Warmest wishes to all xx

  8. Hi Colette — You should do a seedsaving class at Bealtaine Cottage or make one of your great videos on seedsaving. I think if people could see how easy it is (it just takes a bit of observation and a paper bag really), then more people would do it. Your passion for this is appreciated. jools

  9. Reblogged this on Laura Bruno's Blog and commented:
Another inspiring post by Colette of Bealtaine Cottage — full of passion, empowerment, faith and observation of the *positive* changes happening in our world. With all the political and economic insanity out there, isn’t it nice to return to feel all that Nature and love of Nature all around us? Do you feel it growing inside you, too?

  10. Right on! I am writing letters to our rotten US government, talking to friends and family to wake them up, sending money to organic organisations, AND PLANTING SEEDS. Thank you Colette for being an inspiration and rallying point!

    • Brilliant!
I cannot go to Dublin for the March Against Monsanto, as funds do not allow, but will seek one closer to home…actively campaigning against Monsanto, ALWAYS!

Your comments are welcome!
