Magic Everywhere!

Something strange happened last night, for I slept so very deeply and woke early.

It was as though an enchantment had worked a magic everywhere!

I say this, because I spoke with friends this morning, who had similar experiences.

All day today, time has seemed to move so very slowly, though all year it has been remarked that time appears to be speeding up.

Perhaps there is magic in the date…

www.bealtainecottage.com 010This morning has witnessed me once more standing atop the range in the kitchen, armed with a crowbar and quite suddenly realizing success, with the sounds of solid chunks of resinous soot falling down the immense cavity…the chimney is now cleared and the stove, once more, warms the cottage.

Jan 12 Bealtaine Cottage 001Who shall describe the inexpressible tenderness and immortal life of the grim forest, where Nature, though it be midwinter, is ever in her spring, where the moss-grown and decaying trees are not old, but seem to enjoy a perpetual youth.~ Henry David Thoreau

It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”

  1. Colette, Please have your chimney cleaned. I worry that the buildup may result in a chimney fire. You are dear to many, even those of us who only know you though this blog. While wood fires are wonderful they can also be dangerous. Please have your chimney checked and cleaned. Happy Holidays Colette!

  2. Me too. Thought it was odd I was up earlier than normal after a fair few days telling myself before I went to sleep to get up early without success. Seemingly it’s not odd at all.

  3. Thanks for your beautiful posts. They are much appreciated.  Here, in Canada, you can buy some sort of powder that you add to your fire in the stove. It really helps to keep the chimney open (or, at least it did in my chimney, when i used to burn wood). You might have something similar in Ireland….. Nora
