A Country Remedy

As the days move inexorably towards the fullness of August, visitors come and go.

I hear the same words being spoken, from many disillusioned souls, who make their way to Bealtaine Cottage…in search of inspiration and ways to live the better life they dream of having.

Seeking a way back that takes them forward is how I describe it best. Being able to examine first hand the joys of living simply in order to simply live.

Back to a time when home made cakes were the only cakes to be had and bread was made and baked twice a week.

Staying at Bealtaine Cottage is becoming a remedy holiday…one to counteract the negative influences that drag us down and inspire ideas on how to apply simplicity into one’s own life.

This is the what overnight visitors are telling me…of a need for sanctuary.

And to escape the harshness of everyday life, in a quite ragged world, where many feel disenchanted. www.bealtainecottage.com 003

Speaking with recent visitors, it is apparent to me that the world of acquirement, where all is of material value, is a very narrow one.

There appears to be a great need for peace and solitude, time to be still and listen to the sounds of Mother Earth.

As I busy myself in my everyday chores, my visitors drink tea and eat home-made bread or cake and just chill out.

  1. It is a virtual sanctuary for many of us, but my little backyard garden is also – I can relate to your reader “QuarterAcre,” as I have a similar family relationship, though my relatives haven’t admitted my lifestyle may be healthier as yet. No matter, I’ve tried city living and prefer low impact! best wishes!

  2. A few months ago I had my sister and her husband come to stay. I had stressed over this a bit beforehand as they are quite wealthy, inner city apartment dwellers and we have little money and are so different – there have been big gaps in our relationship. After 4 days in the country, eating fresh food and home baking, marveling at the chickens and bees, she told me “You know, we are so envious of what you have here, you guys are living the dream” The Dream, what others think about but don’t do for many different reasons. I think being in this environment reminds us at a very deep level who we really are. Your place is simply beautiful.

  3. Oh Colette it looks wonderful! I can’t wait to come….maybe next year. It is so kind of you to share your space…..and the tea cakes look yummy!

  4. hello, Collette! Can you feel the wheel turning? Golden early mornings with just a teeny weeny hint of a chill. Thought of you over Lammas. Made corn dollies with corn gathered from the golden fields around the cottage. Been poorly but now looking forward to France and tree planting. Your cottage looks so welcoming and pretty, I am glad it is a place of peace and tranquillity for folk in these restless times. Sending loving thoughts to you and your visitors. x

  5. This makes me smile so wide! So glad you are doing this, Colette — that it helps so many to recharge and also helps defray the costs of maintaining Bealtaine Cottage. Blessings, cheers and hugs! Laura

  6. Phew! you are back. I nearly got eaten up by Twitter and current affairs.I had to close off for a week for a sort of sanity to return. You are doing a great job 🙂
