Bealtaine Cottage, Ireland

Flo, the littlest hobo, follows me around today as I work in the gardens.

Another waif and stray who has found a home at Bealtaine Cottage.

She is a character for sure!

Today has been busy…baking, weeding and topping up the potatoes, as well as cutting down the comfrey and topping up the compost…yes indeed, I swing from one task to another with nothing between each except the soap and sink where I wash my hands!

This used to be a pathway, one of many that needs a good trimming.

No wonder that the compost heaps are brimming and the soil is so healthy…there is so much  to feed the soil with, it’s almost impossible to keep up!

Healthy abundance, the true gift of permaculture!

Monetary systems produce scarcity, Permaculture produces abundance, freely!

As I trim archways like this willow one, I throw the cuttings around a plant or tree…

The Transforming Power of Permaculture…Here it is!

It only requires a change of direction and will transform your entire life!

Bealtaine Cottage, Ireland

This was the land in 2004, at the beginning.

This was poor agricultural land, north facing and very wet.

Certainly a challenge!

One pair of hands and a permaculture plan, turned this into…

Eight years and one pair of female hands later…yes, I wore gloves, so they’re not all hard and gnarled!

Seriously though, the miracle is simply this…Plant, Mulch, Plant, Mulch and keep making the compost!

Of course as everything you’ve planted starts to grow, there is no shortage of material for the compost heap or for mulching.

Also, the more planting one does, the more birds and insects make  the garden their home, so fertility is increased.

The grass and earth had encroached onto the back of the cottage, making it damp and miserable inside.

The only time that heavy machinery was involved here at the beginning of this permaculture project, was in clearing all of this and…
