“…the care of the earth is our most ancient and most worthy and, after all, our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it, and to foster its renewal, is our only legitimate hope.”

Without trees, we have nothing so they are worth everything.
Profoundly true!
In another life I’d buy that land next to you, and the community would be started. Maybe someone will, then you could start some communal hedgerows. I look at what you are doing, compare it my yard in my neighborhood, though, and see that it is difficult there, as here, to get your neighbors into a new vision. I will leave my suburban 372 sq meter spot soon for a new one, that is a little larger in a different state. It kills me to think that the bee and bird friendly zone I created is likely to be whacked down, because it looks different and takes someone with a minimum of greenish. So, thought must be given to the afterlife of one’s place.
I have planted trees and created environmental gardens in 8 properties during my life. I refuse to look back, as my energy must be given to the land I take care of now. That is my philosophy.
Hi Colette, took you up on Googling the forests,it was even more than I thought ! there are 1699,000 hectares of forest in France ,30% of the land area,of which 85%are deciduous forest and happily I’m surrounded by a good chunk of it . xx
Lucky you! I wonder what the stats are for Ireland…last time I looked we had the lowest in the EU…sad!
