Humankind’s greatest priority is to reintegrate with the natural world.

If we are to use our tools in the service of fitting in on Earth, our basic relationship to nature–even the story we tell ourselves about who we are in the universe–has to change.

Our little Spaceship Earth is only eight thousand miles in diameter, which is almost a negligible dimension in the great vastness of space.

We are the earth, made of the same stuff; there is no other, no division between us and “lower” or “higher” forms of being.

We stand somewhere between the mountain and the ant.

The source of man’s unhappiness is his ignorance of Nature.

A solitary American monk named Thomas Berry writes that in our relationship to nature, we have been autistic for centuries.  Wrapped tightly in our own version of knowledge, we have been unreceptive to the wisdom of the natural world.  To tune in again, to have the “spontaneous environmental rapport” that characterized our ancestors, will take doing something that is perfectly delightful: reimmersing ourselves in the natural world.

  1. Enjoy your words and pictures. How many square feet is your house? I’ve read your older posts when you first started. Thanks, Devon

    • I have never measured it! I know this may sound strange to anyone outside of Ireland, but old cottages are only ever mentioned in terms of rooms…or were at least when I bought this one.

  2. Lovely podcast Colette. I am exhausted listening to how hard you work and how busy you are!! I hope that you have more people subscribing to the Good Life website; 12 euros is a small sum for a year.
I too will look forward to seeing your handcrafted silver jewellery. Things made with love and care are always lovely to have and wear.
Enjoy your day Colette. Blessings x

  3. Oh lord. I love silver ear-rings and must have about 45 to 50 pairs on my last count. I also love silver and look forward to seeing your creations.

I hope that you get supported more with your work at Bealtaine Cottage, I don’t want you to go out to work at a part-time job. Do we get a reminder of when our annual subscription is due Colette? I think it’s worth every penny and more.

    The audio is terrific now.

Blessings from the Land of Oz.

  4. Thanks Colette. You put so much into everything you do and these podcasts are much appreciated. The subscription is a very small fee for all that you give.

  5. Another lovely podcast Colette. Like you I much prefer silver to gold. I shall definitely look out for earrings in your gift shop. A girl can never have too many. Dawn xx

  6. Thanks for the lovely chat and another look around the cottage. It’s always so lovely. And because we had this chat I finally made my small donation to the animal shelter while I was still smiling about the Irish dog going to Sweden. I suppose he’ll pick up the language quickly… Dogs seem to be pretty quick studies.
The bit about going back to the work sight to survey the accomplishment of your labors is a tad biblical you know…When God looks at his creation and deems it good… I’m thinking that is something we all have ingrained. The desire to see our work and deem it good. Working with the Goddess is rewarding. And the results are worthy of satisfaction.
( the sound quality is now excellent !)
    Blessings
