My Life Support System

Splashed with pink…the Ribes (Flowering Currant), is one of the first great feasts for the Bees, all wild here at Bealtaine Cottage. This photograph was snapped last night around 7pm as the light was fading in the western sky.

Under a waxing moon directly above the cottage…

Awash with pink…the light is very magical as dusk descends…never any filters used, just the magic of the light! This was snapped at around 7pm last evening.

Enjoy these images below as you listen to the podcast…all taken last night and this morning.

    • Collette you are a talented photographer. I bet that if you sold some as A4 prints, maybe in a limited run, over a limited time people would buy them for their walls.
I also enjoyed your Friday video. I too buy only organic compost, but have often wondered, why not biodegradable hessian sacks?
I suppose nurseries would have to keep damp, and they might get rodents, but if they employed more than 2 men and a dog to run them…

  1. I really like listening on your podcast. It’s very relaxing and peaceful and It’s very magical for me i really love to start my day listening to your podcast. Thanks a lot! Keep safe always. Roofers Castle Rock

  2. Hi Colette
The gravel on your driveway and pathways makes a lovely finishing touch not that your
peaceful sanctuary needs embellishing. I love to hear the crunch of the gravel as you walk about.
Jack is a very old soul and a Sidhe. I also think the Robin and small wee little bird is perhaps
your Mother’s way of keeping watch over the place she loved and a daughter she adored.
    Blessings to you and Jack

  3. Thank you so much Collette for the peaks into life at Bealtaine. Wow, spring is looking gorgeous at your place. I love the pink flowers in the pot, with what looks like a poppy plant behind. What are they? I’d like to get more in the garden at this time for the early bees. Also I’m amazed how your paths are so weed and grass free! Do you have weed suppressing material below? I saw you did that around your flowerbeds in one video. You have inspired me for years, and that you are so relaxed with it all, thank you and I aspire to that! Your Ribes look amazing, such big flowers!

      • I am using a thick, clear plastic 20 feet long and 5 feet wide from a giant roll my son gave me by surprise. I decided it was meant to solarize a section of the organic garden to work for the betterment of the soil. 1. kill pathogens like anthracnose, blight 2. to warm the early April soil to stimulate weed seed so it can be hoed off before sowing carrots, radishes, lettuce, onion, spinach, arugula, mizuna, bok choi, Swiss chard, beets, turnips, etc. 3. to draw up invasive jumping worms from Asia as they destroy the soil and rob it from nutrients. 4. eradicate insect eggs like cutworms, wireworms, etc. Because I depend on the food I grow for myself, and at age 70, it’s difficult to grow food in unmanaged rows when a million weeds take over. I add fresh well rotted compost to the bed after hoeing out weed seedlings, and amend with ground egg shells, coffee grinds, diatomaceous earth, and a little organic fertilizer. I interplant and enjoy seeing the confusion of veggies all intermingling happily with one another. Big on companion planting. I sprinkle white alyssum throughout as this sweet flower attracts hover flies – very beneficial. At my age, weed prevention in very early Spring is necessary. I recycle cardboard for weed control. In the blueberry, asparagus and rhubarb patches, this must be done very early so not to disturb the roots. I enjoy your morning walks. Thank you. Linda from Long Island, New York.

  4. Bealtaine is so lovely in her Spring Pink, and your little barn so neat in her new, freshly laid, crunchy gravel. I love Ribes, here in California we have a native one that has super fragrant leaves. The hummers adore it. The black bees are out feeding on tree collard flowers in my garden. They are almost comical bumping into each other; of course nectar procurement is serious business for them. I have hundreds of violet seedlings sprouting, and a little bird landed in my lap the other morning; it surprised us both. Indeed it is joyful to greet Spring. I have so appreciated your last few videos of Bealtaine, the light itself seems tinted pink! These podcasts are also a welcomed bit of joy in my home so far away from yours. Thank You Colette for supporting the life of our Mother.

  5. Hi Colette
Thank you for your daily short videos I know this is your very busy time, it is wonderful to see the
changes each day and the lovely new blooms.
As for the rants this person is bitter and very unhappy, he is a bully and needs counseling I am
sure he is very mean to anybody unlucky enough to have to be around him. Colette the pleasure
and happiness you generate for people at this strange time everyone is trying to manage is priceless.
    Blessings
to you and sweet loving Jack

  6. Stunning as usual, I agree entirely, those obsessed with cleaning up every leaf and twig that dares to drop are completely missing the joy of helping other beings to thrive, yesterday i watched while collared doves and blackbirds collected bits and bobs from last years chop and drop to make their nests, and isn’t it amazing to see little ladybirds and bees sheltering in this so called mess? Food for the soul!

    • Echoing @sparklyanna, we hear and see your life support! Short videos are still appreciated! Blessings from NYC, beautifying the soul!

      • Hi Laura
We are lucky to have all that and more with Colette’s beautiful home to lift our spirits along with her priceless wisdom she enriches lives as we try to survive in this mess made by uncaring selfish humans. People need to wake up and be more kind to our Goddess Mother earth.
        Blessings

  7. Great photo of the Moon 1.2 light seconds away.think that most of those craters and dimples when knocked into it’s surface during the Late Heavy Bombardment 4 billion years ago!the only other world humans have ever set foot on.

  8. Thank you, Colette! Once again you have provided us with beautiful sounds and images, along with words of inspiration. Blessings to all at Bealtaine

  9. So beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I love to see your gardens. Can’t wait for the snow to stop here in Colorado and the tulips, daffodils and snow drops to start blooming.

  10. The photo of the sky at dusk with all the various shades of pink to purple as a backdrop for the dark branches that have yet awoken is phenomenal! Thank you for the audio clip. For those of us on a bit of Bealtaine cottage withdrawal it is a special delight.

  11. What is the name of the shrub (with the pink flowers) that is screening the porch? I love it, but think it might not withstand our cold Canadian winters. I am loving the colors of your spring garden—the hellebores and grape hyacinth! Thanks for sharing!
