Start a huge, foolish project,
like Noah.
It makes absolutely no
difference what people
think of you.

Another five days.
Bealtaine.
The beginning of Summer.
This Bealtaine is the celebration of thirteen years of the Bealtaine project.
A project once considered the silly dream of a ridiculous woman.
Against all financial advice it was conceived and against all horticultural wisdom it was planned.
Planned, planted and grown!
The Bealtaine Project is now complete.
This land is both resilient and regenerative…it can grow abundance without me.
I am now free to observe and delight, potter and sit, all the while simply ensuring the gentle maintenance of the edges and paths, free to harvest and raise plants for the Potager Beds which provide some of my food and much of my pleasure.
I have embarked on writing my second book, happy with the good reception of the first, “A Cottage and Three Acres.”
I recently read this quote by W. H. Murray and found it to be true to my experience at Bealtaine Cottage over the past thirteen years…
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. “

Hello, I was trying to buy the books by Sarah Warden that you have quoted from, but can only find kindle versions and I don’t have that. Do you know a link to her books or where I could purchase paperbacks ? I live in the USA…….thank you Colette 🙂
Sadly I don’t.
i devoured your book in one glorious afternoon…and am now going back for a second round. I’m so inspired…I went right out and pruned my blackberry bushes and saved the cuttings to replant! That’s the sort of thing i used to do, until i got tangled up in How You’re Supposed to Grow Things, instead of following my own intuition, my feeling for what was needed. So thank you — for the reminder that we need only listen to the land and I’m looking forward to your next book! xo
Our honed intuition is our connection to Mother Earth! Keep the lines of communication open at all times!
I love the quote, so true.
Congratulations on following your dream, an amazing feat. I am going to start growing my own vegetables in raised beds.
More power to you Daphne!
Thanks. Will have a look when our pay comes in.
Oh this was the perfect post to wake up to. Thank you! I enjoyed your book, and am on my second re-read. I have been prepping an area bigger than my house for planting many things, as a start, ha. I’m doing a little bit every day, it’s a lot of work, but it’s work I feel good doing. It feels like a giant mess, but in my mind, it’s already beautiful.
Keeping a picture of your garden in your mind and developing it will help manifest the abundance and beauty you seek…blessings on your work XXX
Thank you 😊. It appears my bones and heart know more than my mind these days, I can’t stop planting. Continuous well wishes on your bountiful land and self. Looking forward to the next book too!
Mother Earth has called and you have answered! Blessings XXX
Perfect timing for me with that quotation of Murray – must look him/her up. Congratulations on reaching the magical number!!! Tell us more about the next book. x
A celebrational book for Midwinter…it’s coming along!
Love it. Great quote.
Was thinking of you this morning. Most of our garden is stumbling of late and nearly everything new we’ve planted has ‘failed’ …except, from those seeds you sent us – we now have 3 nasturtiums each with three leaves on – I can’t tell you how happy they make me and how much I’m loving on them and talking to them and generally doting on them. They’re awesome.
The children of Bealtaine!
Definitely.
Do you still have enough seeds available that we might be able to order some more to cover the ones that failed in a week or two perhaps
Some seeds remaining…check out the site and I may send a few more unexpected!
