Bealtaine Cottage Early Summer Album

IMG_5956

It has been some time…

“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” ~ Henry James

IMG_5957

Just as the rosebuds are swelling, early Summer makes an appearance. It has been a long cold Winter and Spring.

IMG_5958

Euphorbia has brightened the veranda with its vivid lime green.

IMG_5959

And finally, finally the garden stirs into full life.

IMG_5960

“Green was the silence, wet was the light,
the month of June trembled like a butterfly.”
~ Pablo Neruda

IMG_5961

“Bees do have a smell, you know, and if they don’t they should, for their feet are dusted with spices from a million flowers.”
~ Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine.

IMG_5962

Garden visitors have left and the warmth of a sunny afternoon is all my own once more.

IMG_5963

Quince is now fully open in the sun against the warm wood of the barn wall.

IMG_5964

“it’s a smile, it’s a kiss, it’s a sip of wine … it’s summertime!” ~ Kenny Chesney

IMG_5965

Cotoneaster and Birch grow to create shelter by the front door.

IMG_5968

Primroses prolong their blooms in the shady banks along the driveway.

IMG_5966

Bunting heralds a welcome to garden visitors…every day of May…

IMG_5970

And there’s Jack, curious as always to pick up the scent of visitors…

IMG_5967

The golden Goddess now has her sacred Owls nearby…one day Owls will move into Bealtaine…one day…

IMG_5969

Dandelions create a food path for the bees at the top of the driveway.

IMG_0387Another five days.

IMG_0385Bealtaine.

IMG_0386The beginning of Summer.

IMG_0388This Bealtaine is the celebration of thirteen years of the Bealtaine project.

IMG_0384A project once considered the silly dream of a ridiculous woman.

IMG_0383Against all financial advice it was conceived and against all horticultural wisdom it was planned.

IMG_0382Planned, planted and grown!IMG_0381

The Bealtaine Project is now complete.

IMG_0389This land is both resilient and regenerative…it can grow abundance without me.

IMG_0390I am now free to observe and delight, potter and sit, all the while simply ensuring the gentle maintenance of the edges and paths, free to harvest and raise plants for the Potager Beds which provide some of my food and much of my pleasure.

IMG_0391I have embarked on writing my second book, happy with the good reception of the first, “A Cottage and Three Acres.”

IMG_0392I recently read this quote by W. H. Murray and found it to be true to my experience at Bealtaine Cottage over the past thirteen years…

IMG_0393“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. “

W. H. Murray

I’m sharing these images of Bealtaine Cottage this evening and saying a massive “Thank You!” to you all!

dsc02869 Many of you have been with me from the very beginning, when I first ventured into the world of blogging and began writing about my journey here at Bealtaine Cottage.

dsc02868I attempted in a small way, to be a voice for simple living through Permaculture, in my attempts at   helping to invest life and abundance into these three acres of Mother Earth…

dsc02867

…working out a template for others to use in any small way.

dsc02866Making the mistakes, planting land, growing the trees and just trying to get by in between it all! dsc02865Some of you have joined along the way…and many have stayed!

dsc02864The subscriptions have kept growing…a bit like my kitchen floor that grew for almost two years! dsc02863Bealtaine Cottage grew onto YouTube…

dsc02862And then onto Facebook…

dsc02861Bealtaine Cottage magical Gardens on FB has just reached 17,000 Likes!

dsc02860But tonight I want to say Thank You…

dsc02859To all of you who have made this little piece of Sacred Earth reach over ONE AND A HALF MILLION VIEWS!

dsc02858I never imagined it possible!

dsc02857Thanks for all your emails and good wishes!

dsc02856Thanks for all your love and support!

dsc02850

May the Bealtaine Project continue to grow…in the hearts and minds of all who wish for a better way of living WITH rather than ON Mother Earth!

Blessings XXX Colette

Free From The Bank…Permaculture Plants, The Growing Investment!

It’s rare to get anything from a bank these days.

Investments and savings are accepted, while little is offered to customers!

However, my local bank, in Carrick-on-Shannon, provided me with one of the best growing investments I have ever had…and one that continues to grow and spread rampantly…Valerian.

To be honest, I stole them!

Now that’s a confession I should not be making, but in this case, as the seeds did not belong to Monsanto, I felt it was my duty to snap them off and spread them as generously as I could, all around Bealtaine Cottage.

Anyway, six or so years later, the seeds continue to spread, of their own volition and infest the gravel with delight, for me and the Bees!

Here they are…Click on the link to see the best investment anyone can make…investing in Nature and the environment…
