Enchantment on the Last Day of November

25

IMG_0818

There was always understood to be a contract between the people and the land.

IMG_0810This reminder formed the words as I walked the woodland sanctuary, on this last day of November.

IMG_0813The leaf-covered earth I walked upon reminded me of that sacred contract, one long since forgotten by humankind.

IMG_0814From the sacred well flows the life-giving force of the Otherworld.

IMG_0817All the ancient races of the Earth understood this.

IMG_0821The contract was broken by those who nurtured a greed for more and more wealth.

IMG_0824This continues today and is the reason why Mother Earth has been brought to the edge of destruction all across Her land and seas.

IMG_0826The native pre-Christian mythology of Celtic Ireland is highly Goddess-centered.

IMG_0806This is in recognition of the understanding that the Earth is female and the force is that of the Creatrix.

IMG_0804Irish mythology, in particular, is filled with stories of powerful women.

IMG_0795These women, often revered and greatly honoured, were seen as incarnations of the ‘Sovereignty’ goddess.

IMG_0680

On these mornings near Midwinter, the moon continues to move across the sky as the sun rises.

IMG_0716The land speaks.

The Goddess is imbued in the chalice and has become the sacred quest of folklore, that of the Holy Grail.

Here at Bealtaine Cottage she is the land Herself.

IMG_0724It is a most blessed time of the day, when the energy is rising.

IMG_0723My morning ritual is the same…I walk the land and listen, not just with my ears but with my whole being.

IMG_0720The energy of the Goddess flows out from the spring well and across the woodland…I listen.

IMG_0682I walk always in awareness of the Otherworld  which influences my own.

IMG_0686I walk in service to the land.

IMG_0684This Goddess-centred land feels a part of me and I a part of Her.

IMG_0690The Otherworld is inextricably linked to the land I walk.

IMG_0783The Otherworld is not about the dead.

IMG_0727The Otherworld is referred to as the ‘land of the living’ in ancient lore.

IMG_0746The Goddess has a great propensity for shape-shifting…so as I walk the land it is oftentimes I am followed by birds.

IMG_0816Tomorrow marks the first day of December and the descent towards the Midwinter Solstice.

IMG_0679This will herald the return of the rise of the light, as we move towards Imbolc.

IMG_0764Yule begins on the Midwinter Solstice and continues until the first day of January.

IMG_0772The sacred walks of Winter continue…

Goddess Permaculture…Here It Is!

9

dsc05099This is a morning in early winter, at Bealtaine Cottage in the west of Ireland.

dsc05100dsc05108On this Sunday, the twentieth day of November, I awoke to frost, clear skies and that bitter cold signalling immersion in Winter.

dsc05112Bealtaine Cottage didn’t always look like this…you can see how it once looked at the bottom of this page…

dsc05118Twelve years ago it looked quite different.

dsc05120The monoculture of meat production had brought the land low.

dsc05121Mother Earth was slowly dying.

dsc05122The air was silent.

dsc05123This morning you can see for yourself the beauty brought back to the land through Goddess Permaculture.

dsc05125What is Goddess Permaculture, I hear you ask?

dsc05130It is simply this…to recognise the Goddess in all life and honour her beauty and abundance, living as close to the Great Mother, Goddess Gaia, as one possibly can.

dsc05136To understand the Divine Feminine as the source of all life.

dsc05138dsc05142dsc05145dsc05151To honour the life force of Mother Earth.

dsc05152dsc05155dsc05174dsc05175dsc05176

To not just believe, but to understand that there is a way back to a beautiful Earth!

dsc05196dsc05199dsc05209dsc05217dsc05218dsc05222

You don’t need qualifications to restore Mother Earth…you need to open your heart and feel deep compassion for her loss…

Now we come to the end of this series of images taken this morning, you will find the images I snapped twelve years ago, when the Goddess lay buried deep within herself, hidden by patriarchal abuse and greed!

Morning

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 020

Morning in the west of Ireland on a perfect day in late June.

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 021The back door of the cottage is open; wood pigeons call softly to one another as blackbirds swoop noisily in and out of the blackcurrant bushes, feasting on the heavily laden stems.

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 022Morning…full of stillness and promise, the prelude to a hot, dry day of high summer.

The cottage will remain a cool sanctuary, as the heat of the day rises golden over the hill of Ballyfermoyle.

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 024Birds will swoop along paths of shade, wings outstretched catching the earthy updraft of chill.

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 026“Summer was our best season: it was sleeping on the back screened porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the treehouse; summer was everything good to eat; it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape; but most of all, summer was Dill.”
― Harper LeeTo Kill a Mockingbird

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 031“Summer set lip to earth’s bosom bare, and left the flushed print in a poppy there.”
― Francis Thompson

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 028The hill at the back of the cottage captures the sounds of the birds, holding them close before echoing onto the walls and through the open door into the cool recesses of the stone.

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 029Leaving this sacred place would never sit easy in my heart, for all that is Bealtaine Cottage has been co-created with the great Mother: Earth, Gaia, Nature…whatever insufficient name we draw upon to express the mystery of the Divine.

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 033My dream to plant a forest will come to pass…in some divine way…

June 2014 permaculture@bealtainecottage.com 036I dream and manifest the vision in sleep and wakedness.

One day, a beautiful morning such as this will shine through onto a young forest floor, illuminating the darkness of a greed-stricken world.

A Wish for The Children of Gaza

6

The full moon rises above Bealtaine Cottage.

Last night there was a new moon, somewhere in the sky.

Often times I watch the moon and think of all those it shines upon.

Many dark nights, when the stars fill the sky with their own light show and shooting stars leave a momentary arch in the night sky, I make a wish.

In the cold November air of a Sunday night in the west of Ireland, I made a wish, a heartfelt wish, for The Children of Gaza.

It was quite a simple wish too.

There was nothing of Christmas, Santa or presents galore.

Nothing to do with Disney, or mince pies, or turkey.

It was simply this…

That somewhere here in the western world, there will be one human being, one hero, one person of compassion and integrity, a leader, who will stand up for what is right.

One brave person and true… for there is one, at least…

Just one, who will say, “No more!”

One who will stand in front of the Children of Gaza and say…”You shall not pass…not on my watch!”

The days when one associated a political leader with integrity and justice are over.

Their mandate appears to be greed and psychopathy.

One can still wish.

Last night I made a wish…

A Few Minutes of Truth…are you ready for this?

14

Rio+20.

The truth is more terrible than we could have imagined.

The truth hurts.

The truth will set us free.

Yes, that is true…for it will set us free, but only after a terrifying journey headlong into the abyss.

That is what I encountered after listening to Dr Vandana Shiva say a few poignant and awfully truthful words outside of the Rio+20 Summit.

I am not going to paraphrase any of what this mighty woman had to say.

It has touched me deeply and I am still in shock.

Take the few minutes to listen to her.

Please.

Let me know what you think?

I feel upset and even terrified.

It is the truth, but so very hard to come to terms with!

Click on the link below…

Her name is fitting. She is a destroyer of lies and a preserver of truth.

A Life in the Country ~ The Growing Disaster of Impoverishment!

5

Early winter and the weather is brilliantly sunny with clear skies above the cottage and moonlit nights that are bright and cold!

It’s worth enduring the rain and grey for mornings like this…

September 2011 Permaculture Cottage 008Colours continue to develop in the densely planted gardens. This palette of colour continues all the year round…

Dense planting as is undertaken in any permaculture plan, lends itself well to the enrichment of the soil.

Permaculture at Bealtaine Cottage. The verandaImpoverishment of the soil is no natural disaster, in fact it is the result of nothing less than greed…for money!

Henhouse at Bealtaine Permaculture Cottage Cash crops and monoculture are both killing the soil, which is an integral part of our lifeline.

permaculture at Bealtaine cottage In the past seven years since the beginning of Bealtaine, this land has gone from rushy monoculture half  life to enriched, protected earth and being continually enriched and protected due to planting.

Permaculture Cottage ...September 2011 013Poly-culture, which is the opposite of monoculture is of maximum importance for the survival of Nature as we know it.

This high level of biodiversity provides all year round food for the Natural World.

Diverse planting with permaculture at Bealtaine cottage Peanuts, imported and therefore carrying a huge carbon footprint, are not a sustainable source of food for the birds and wildlife.

Diverse and enriched planting is.

We should therefore stop trying to re-invent the wheel and plant our gardens and urban spaces to this end.

A beautiful garden becomes a paradise when Nature is placed high on the list of important horticultural demands!

At the top!

This is one of the many delights of a garden that embraces maximum biodiversity…silky spider webs woven through Cotoneaster on a winter’s morning.

Light is important at this time of year as we descend towards the Midwinter Solstice and within it, the shortest day of the year.

Mirrored cottage of Bealtaine Permaculture Cottage Light is also very beautiful during this time…silver streams filtered through landscape hedgerows and trees.

In the words of Saint Columcille…”It is peaceful and it is delightful.”

Permaculture Cottage ~ 70,000 Visitors…(now almost 300,000) seek a better way forward.

1

Potting, planting, protecting and nurturing the future of Earth…the babies of Gaia are secure in the Nursery beds as the storm approaches from the west, with an early winter not far behind…in late October to be expected!

Visitors to this permaculture blog topped 70,000 this week.

Interest in permaculture is booming as the forces that rule and dominate this sacred earth go into a tailspin, driven by their hatred, greed and compelling and overwhelming desire to destroy all that is good and sustainable on Gaia.

More and more people are becoming desirous of finding a way forward which can only be based on sustainability.

Permaculture is the way that has proven itself to be foolproof here at Bealtaine Cottage. Marian, Colin and Marisa, visitors this week, will testify to that!

Sedums this morning, near the tunnel.  It’s hard to believe that these are growing where once only rushes grew…with nothing sprayed, turned, dug, imported, raped or plundered.

The thing is, when you start to trust Nature and treat her as a friend, wonderful things start to happen…that is permaculture for me, in a nutshell!

Oregano growing around the water bins near the tunnel this morning.

The flower heads can be dried and used to make tea which has wonderful anti-bacterial properties.

Good for sore throats!

Ash trees stand tall and heroic all around the borders of Bealtaine…I have more faith and trust in these guardians of Gaia than any standing army!

The pathway into the Fairy Dell, lined on either side by a Willow Fedge…now is the time to create fedges like this, easy to make and cost ZERO…my favourite word as you all know!

PS…since posting this in September 2011, over 295,000 visitors have made their way to Bealtaine Cottage…permaculture is blooming!

Permaculture Cottage ~ Monsanto:the global takeover of our food…

1

Fresh eggs from my hens.

Food.

Without food we would die.

How fundamental to our existence is that then?

I grow lots of food here at Bealtaine Cottage.

I grow it on trees, bushes and plants…most of which are grown from seed here at Bealtaine and saved here and in the locality.

But, if the story emerging from Iraq is anything to go by, then soon, I will be breaking the law!

For all the seed I save will be done so illegally. Monsanto want to issue patents

http://t.co/idDWlzQ

on all seed and are being aided by the US government…check it out for yourself!

Complacency is the biggest weapon they have, that and ignorance.

So it behoves us all to become very educated about what Monsanto have done in other countries…a kind of trial run.

Thousands of poor Indian farmers have killed themselves because of the corner that Monsanto knowingly and greedily backed them into!

I urge you all, now, to arm yourself with as much information as you can find on Monsanto and their global practices.

Leave any comment here on this site, complete with links to any info you come across…I will put this into further blogs and post on Twitter.

Don’t play into the hands of the global elite…empower with knowledge and discuss with all!

This post was written in July 2011 and it is happening as I feared it would!

A Statement from Bealtaine Cottage Permaculture Smallholding. Ref: Fracking!

0

This is for the record.

I am very angry that my government here in Ireland has granted licences to 2 Gas Companies, to drill for gas in the NW of Ireland. In all probability these companies will use Hydraulic Fracturing as a method for extracting the gas. If this happens, I will not stand idly by. I intend protesting as a means to stop this from going ahead. I will not give up. If that means Court and Prison, then so be it.

We have been told that there is a regulator to protect the environment. Well, so much for the regulator who regulated the banks! I don’t feel protected by my government! I realise that people must do what they can to protect their environments from the catastrophic need of the Men of Greed.

Ireland MUST be protected from the environmental disaster that is ‘Fracking.’ Once poisoned, our water, instead of being the water of life it now is, becomes the water of death for all living creatures on our Sacred Land.

That’s it. For the record.
