Metamorphosis

DSC08018

2016 is a year of transformation for Bealtaine Cottage.

Changes are being put into place this month in preparation for the year ahead.

Last year was the busiest year ever for visitors to the cottage…I lost count somewhere around June and with almost every day welcoming new visitors, work on my writing and gardening began to suffer as a consequence.

DSC08019I was guilty of what many enthusiastic people are guilty of…spreading myself too thinly! Already I have many requests from would-be visitors, so have made the decision to take a year off from opening the gardens.

DSC08020There is so much work to be done, as I have plans to create new beds and paths around the three acres. Talk about work…I haven’t even had time to move my Lemon tree in from the veranda! Thank goodness it’s been a mild Winter!

DSC08021

The Kale I planted into the old wheelbarrow has made good strides in growing through January! As the days lengthen the growth will increase and I look forward to harvesting leaves of Kale very soon!

For those wishing to visit, the garden gate will not be permanently closed…

Sunday May 1st is Bealtaine Day, a very special day in the gardening year for lovers of all things Celtic and Mother Earth!

DSC08022

May 1st is the first day of Summer in the Celtic Wheel and Bealtaine Cottage will be hosting an OPEN DAY of celebration!

Unlike the photograph taken today, the gardens will be awash with colour, as well as the hum of bees and the sweet scents of herbs and flowers!

I will also organize another Open day or two as the Summer progresses.

DSC08023Time is of the essence for me, as I attempt to fit in so many aspects of my life!

Bealtaine Cottage is home to me and I have come to realize that it is also home in a spiritual way to so many others…that is why my writing and photographing of this little place must come first.

DSC08025Out of metamorphosis comes new, better and stronger.

Seeds are available from Bealtaine Cottage…all grown, open-pollinated and saved here!

While Rome Burns…

bealtainecottage.com 012

There are no solutions to the instability in the world that I care to offer, as my voice is irrelevant in the scheme of things that cause mayhem and war.

www.bealtainecottage.com 011

I can only offer advice on what works for me…on what keeps me sane in a world filled with lunacy!

bealtainecottage.com 010

Keep grounded!

bealtainecottage.com 007

Do what you have to do and do it well!

bealtainecottage.com 001

Look ahead into the seasons and make plans for planting, working, visiting and caring for the world around you.

bealtainecottage.cottage.com 006

Think about ways in which you can heal the world around you, be positive and nurture.

bealtainecottage.com 023

Don’t allow the mayhem to grind you down…life went on after the Fall of Rome, as well we know!

bealtainecottage.com 005

Remember, even as war, austerity and breakdown of society is happening right now in countries around the globe, people continue to look after their children, grow food, make food, wash clothes and generally get on with life as best they can.

bealtainecottage.com 018

For all the negative and dreadful news we are battered with on a daily basis, remember there are real people around you doing good things!

10 July 2014 005

The mainstream media rarely reports on good people.

I can say, with absolute certainty,  there are many more good people on this Earth than bad…and sometimes, those we perceive to be bad are just hurting.

The world is as beautiful, peaceful and abundant as each of us are prepared to make it!

Angels

bealtainecottage.com 020

Embracing one’s journey means being ready for change.

bealtainecottage.com 022

To be ready, one has to be open and receptive.

This morning I searched for an explanation of what I experienced in my dreams; the kind of dreams that seem real, so real you get confused, almost trapped between two realms; that of sleep and wake.

bealtainecottage.com 023

Before going to bed, I went through the usual ritual of walking Jack around and under the trees near the cottage.

The moon was full and very bright…it had risen late.

bealtainecottage.com 032

The night was still and the moon was rising in a cloudless sky.

sustainable living at bealtainecottage.com 024

The West of Ireland enjoys many nights of star-filled skies and amazing moons, but last night there was a strange feeling in the air…something akin to an ethereal experience.

sustainable living at bealtainecottage.com 019

My rational mind simply couldn’t engage with it; I couldn’t explain what I was feeling.

I must have fallen asleep quite quickly after going to bed, for the dreams I experienced seemed to go on and on.

Permaculture Gardens at bealtainecottage.com 029

My dreams were filled with angels, small moth-like beings that were also fairies, yet I knew there were angels.

cropped-autumn-in-the-permaculture-gardens-of-bealtainecottage-com-004.jpg

Isn’t it a strange experience to have rational thoughts in a dream and “know,” what things are about?

bealtainecottage.com 021

As I walked through what appeared to be the world, the angels flew around and around like butterflies, whispering to me and making me smile.

Autumn in the permaculture gardens of bealtainecottage.com 017

I don’t know what they said, but the whispers were happy and reassuring in their tones.

bealtainecottage.com 039

Recently, like many of you, I have felt anxious and disturbed to see what humanity has done; atrocities committed and the blood of innocent children spilled so casually.

Autumn in the permaculture gardens of bealtainecottage.com 008

The threat of war prevails.

Weather has become violent and unpredictable.

All around, this violence pollutes the Earth and humankind.

We stand near a precipice and dare not acknowledge it!

Autumn in the permaculture gardens of bealtainecottage.com 002

However, upon waking, all my anxieties had disappeared…I felt renewed!

bealtainecottage.com 040

I have felt for a very long time, indeed for the past ten years, that the Earth is trying to communicate with us.

cropped-permaculture-at-bealtainecottage-com-031.jpg

Mother Earth is desperate for us to live in peace with her, rather than against her!

Living in the simple way I do has allowed me time and space to consider her.

bealtainecottage.com 044

There are no distractions at Bealtaine Cottage, no TV, radio or harsh intrusions, yet still I sense the formidable force of what lies beyond the gardens…it is dark indeed!

bealtainecottage.com 049

There is a mighty transition taking place and those who would destroy are on a final rampage across our Sacred Earth.

permaculture at bealtainecottage.com 024

In the midst of all this darkness, I believe there are forces of light, unseen at most times, but gathering and sharing strength.

bealtainecottage.com 053

Yes, we are living in a time of Apocalypse, but please, remember what the true meaning of the word really is…’lifting of the veil.’

Take heart…we are not alone.

bealtainecottage.com 006
The word,“apocalypse” comes from Ancient Greek and pre-dates the Bible.
To source the word one has to look to writings from that period.
It is there.
 Apo=un
Kaluptein=to cover
Apokaluptein=uncover
Apokalupsis, from ancient Greek, to modern Greek then into Old French/Latin=Apocalypse.
The original meaning is lost in translation, though it is relevant to point out that the word is found in the Book of Revelation. Revelation coming from “reveal” or uncover!
Does make one think, does it not?

Welcome to Midwinter and the End of Baktun 13

Bealtaine Cottage Permaculture AngelThe Maya calendar was based on multiple cycles of time,  and one of these cycles was called a Baktun.

Bealtaine Cottage permaculture maya CalendarA Baktun is 144,000 days.

This is also measured as a little more than 394 years.

Bealtaine Cottage Permaculture KitchenThis is like a re-setting of the clock as the Winter Solstice approaches, for Baktun 13 ends on the 21st day of December, the official time of the Solstice.

No one paid much attention to the end of Baktun 13 until fairly recently.

Bealtaine Cottage Fairy

Interest in the Mayan Calendar began in the 1970’s and has continued with great aplomb since then.

Bealtaine Cottage permaculture fairy

Some have referred to this date as the end of times and many have aligned the date to a great cataclysmic event, possibly signalling the end of the world.

Bealtaine Cottage PermacultureThis much I know…we are in a time of great change and with that, great hope.

Bealtaine Cottage PermacultureThe Mayan Calendar was cyclical.

Our own calendar is linear.

Therein lies the difference…

Bealtaine Cottage Permaculture angelCollective consciousness is manifesting.

Many people feel the vibrational level of everyday life change.

Bealtaine Cottage Permaculture catIf someone had told me 8 years ago just how much my own life was about to change, I would have laughed at them for being ridiculous!

Change is to be welcomed…

Permaculture Cottage ~ Beyond Consumerism…Life after Debt.

Friday…always a good feeling!

The weekend lies ahead and there lies the potential for something happening and all sorts of possibilities.

Many people look forward to going out and many go shopping, as a form of retail therapy!

However, change is happening…and it is good!

This is a time of change.

The Equinox is upon us and the day itself is changing as we enter the descent towards Midwinter.

An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the center of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth’s equator.

The day and night are equal…

Consumerism is slowing down.

People are buying less and are turning more and more towards growing and foraging food.

The social and economic order that is based on the systematic creation and fostering of a desire to purchase goods and services in ever greater amounts has failed us all.

This may appear to be a bad thing to some people, but the Earth has been given a break…the first real break in a very long time.

The flowers at the front gate are beginning to replace the  concrete walls, iron gates that are closed and an intercom service that you have to speak into in order just to drive or walk up to the house!

The idea of neighbours and helping one another is slowly catching on…

Today has seen several visitors to Bealtaine Cottage, including a neighbour concerned about ‘Fracking’ and wanting more information.

The times we live in are all about change…

Change is happening and happening fast.

We either embrace the change in our living circumstances, taking time to evaluate our lives, or we continue on as mere consumers, or in the present scenario, unhappy people without the money to keep consuming.

The choice is ours.

Today is the actual Autumn Equinox…the descent towards Midwinter begins…a time to nurture, bake, cook, sew and…rest a bit!

What was it that Bob Dylan sang about…oh yes…

The Times They Are A Changin’

Permaculture Cottage ~ Sustainable Living, Willow and Trees

All the ingredients to make Autumn Chutney are in the pot and heating up on the stove. The apples are from the trees here at Bealtaine. Onions were grown here as well. The stove is burning wood grown here also…which all adds to the sustainability of living…and living well.

I posted the recipe for this last night…so you can easily find it on the previous day…just scroll down and click on the link to go back…

Delicious and top quality as all the ingredients are sourced or grown by myself. Shop bought chutneys just come anywhere near this stuff taste-wise!

And lots of material for the compost heaps… All the apples used in this chutney were windfalls!

I have been reading a lot of stuff on Twitter recently about how pointless it is to plant trees and the importance of protecting our woodlands and forests! Well, the latter I do agree wholeheartedly with, but as for the pointessness of planting new trees…that’s just damned silly! Anyone who has planted a tree in their lifetime will testify to that!

Trees are poems that earth writes upon the sky,
We fell them down and turn
them into paper,
That we may record our emptiness.
~Kahlil Gibran

Seven years ago there were NO trees here on this land…just some in the rather neglected hedges that skirted the land. All you see on the blogs I post are trees that I have planted…over 600 to date. the willow I am harvesting in this photo is a catch crop, planted inbetween the actual trees.

However, there is another very important reason to plant trees and willow and anything else you can think of…biodiversity and wildlife!

Those same people who believe it futile to plant trees should ask the little bird who built this nest if it was futile!

It is amazing just how much we can create from nothing with the magic of Gaia. This was a rod of willow I just stuck into the ground…

Real change needs to grow from the roots up…that means ourselves, individually and collectively getting on with it…creating the world we want to live in.

Procul omen abesto! Ovid and the Days to Come…

Far be that fate from us…said Ovid over 2,000 years ago…

The Nursery at Bealtaine Cottage

It got me thinking of all I thought would not happen when I first took up growing…

Potting up in the polytunnel

We would not destroy our lifeline, the soil, for all that is necessary for life lies within…

And yet this is happening all over the developed world, and, everywhere else too!

Did you see the gigantically terrifying Dust-cloud that enveloped Phoenix, Arizona?

Reminiscent of the Dust-Bowl catastrophes of the hungry thirties…

In Permaculture we mulch…and mulch and…mulch! Building up layers of soil and goodness.

dealing with slugs, the seaweed methodThere is little need to dig, disturbing the ecological balance of the soil.

weed suppressing with cardboard

The fate that awaits us all is a depleted soil and thence a depleted Earth and this is happening every day in corporate controlled Agriculture…and there is a Land-Grab going on, have no doubt about that!

The Corporate monsters are on the march!

We must all take our positions in making a stand against this and we can!

As consumers we are powerful, very powerful indeed!

Potager bed at Bealtaine Cottage

I was reminded on Twitter this morning of this when reading some of the tweets accumulated overnight and one of them was about buying local, another about imported foods from parts of Africa where hunger is now ravaging the people…think on…

Hazelnuts beginning to ripen here at Bealtaine…this is a food to forage as well as grow and forms a good source of protein for the vegan or vegetarian.

These store well and can be ground or minced and added to burgers!

And a few more words from Ovid…”Video meliora, proboque; Deteriora sequor,” which translated means, simply…”I see the better way, and approve it; I follow the worse.”

We have choices.

We have the power.

We can be the change we want to see…
