Why did the Irish farmers have to remove the hedgerows ?
“The increased use of machinery, the removal of hedgerows, and the greater use of chemicals has led to landscape simplification and degradation and, as elsewhere in much of Europe, a reduction in the diversity of species across the Irish countryside.” ~EPA Small fields were enlarged to facilitate the use of bigger and bigger machinery, Overgrown hedgerows have recently been ripped out by diggers to facilitate satellite mapping on behalf of the EU.
The reasons keep stacking up!
Sad!
