Whispers of the Woods. A Woman’s Soul Journey in the Celtic Garden

Welcome to my garden, a sacred space where nature speaks and the soul finds its voice.

Here, at Bealtaine Cottage, I began a journey that has intertwined the wisdom of the ancient Celts with this project to restore and cultivate nature to the best of my ability.

In Celtic belief, every tree holds a story, a lesson waiting to be discovered. The oak, with its strength, teaches us resilience; the willow, with its grace, reminds us to adapt and flow with life.

As I walk among these giants, I feel their energy nourishing my spirit.

My journey is not just about cultivating plants but also nurturing the soil and my soul.

Each seed I have planted here at Bealtaine Cottage was and is a reflection of my hopes and dreams, and as they have grown so have I.

The garden and woodland has become a mirror, revealing the depths of my spirit.

Gardening is a sacred act, a communion with Mother Earth. The soil is rich with life, a reminder that we are all interconnected.

In the quiet moments, I listen to the rustling leaves, the chirping birds, and the soft whispers of the wind. They share their wisdom, guiding me on this path.

Spirituality in the garden is about more than just the plants; it’s about finding peace within ourselves.

The Celts believed in the magic of nature, and in this space, I feel that magic come alive.

It’s in the stillness that I find clarity, in the chaos that I discover strength.

I honour the elements—earth, water, air, and fire—by creating a sacred space. I call this my secret garden.

This Stone Circle is a place for reflection, gratitude, and connection. It reminds me that, like the seasons, we too go through cycles of growth, rest, and renewal.

Each blossom and each vegetable is a gift, a symbol of the nourishment we receive from Mother Earth. In sharing this bounty, I connect with others and celebrate the cycle of life.

My journey in this garden is a lifelong quest for wisdom and connection.

Here, amidst the trees and the growing woodland, I embrace the beauty of being a woman, grounded in the rich traditions of my Celtic heritage. May we all find our own gardens, where our souls can flourish and our spirits can soar.

Blessings to you all xxx Colette and Patsy

Seeing what you’ve been doing at Bealtaine Cottage is also encouraging me to “Keep Going” in my own garden plot, in spite of various challenges. Mother Earth needs people like you….we all need people like you! (and I’d sure love to meet wee Patsy, she’s a doll!)

  9. Your gentle words and wonderful videos have carried me through an extremely difficult few weeks. I have just returned from Donegal where I was dealing with my late father’s affairs. I have always found solace in my garden. I understand exactly how you feel about Mother Earth nature and the need to be immersed and surrounded and at one with Mother Earth. Thank you Colette you truly are a wonderful woman.

  10. Hello Colette from our New Hampshire farm. It is sleeting/snow here. The woodland skies are a steel gray. Our little wild birds are enjoying breakfast in a sheltered feeder. Your photos with comments are wonderful. Many of what you have graciously shared are thoughts that are in my head as well when I walk though our sanctuary of 🌲🌲🌲 woods. This is a year of healing for many of us. The trees do indeed give off renewed energy and an aura of peaceful existence. They are a comfort to me and highly prized. Your lovely spring photos of greenery and flowers brightens my heart with thoughts of thawing ground and bulbs emerging through patches of snow. The awakening is slow here, but I can feel it beginning to happen.

  11. Thank you for showing us more of your beautiful garden. My weary heart and bedbound body were truly lifted at sight of flowers and trees. Long may you continue to share your garden. Soft hugs to you and Patsy.

  12. Beautiful words. I understand what you mean about the garden feeling like a sacred place. We are planting 13 acres into what I hope will be food for us and nature, each tree, shrub, seed or bulb tells me where it wants to be planted, it feels surreal. I have a science background but am learning to embrace this new world. You have been my inspiration so I thank you for that.

  13. My dear Collette, what a beautiful essay. I had always loved gardens, but had little time for it until I retired. I lost my son just after I retired. I threw myself into my garden, planted new plants and a few trees. I made new flower beds. Working in nature was my therapy. Mother earth wrapped her arms around me and rewarded my work with so much beauty. All you say in your essay is so true. Nature is loving and peaceful. We heal in her majesty.

  14. Such a wonderful and lifting experience when you share your little corner of Mother Earth with us and I find it really reflective and nourishing to take your thoughts forward into my own little patch of allotment and just be thankful for the tranquility this can bring me among the chaos of this world we all now inhabit. so glad I was born at the beginning of the 50’s where my cumbrian childhood was spent running free in nature.

  15. Your posts have inspired me so much over the years. You’ve truly touched my life in a million ways. Thank you. Sending love and hugs from Michigan, USA.

  16. So true. Gardens can be a place to give us peace and balance to deal with the ups and downs of the present whirlwind of history.

  17. It’s obvious that you are a writer. Your ability to put into words that describes your garden and woodland and how your Celtic heritage influences your life and your relationship with Mother Earth is so beautiful.

  18. Thank you so very much for sharing! I, too, have a woodland garden; but, during these difficult times, your words are a great encouragement and strength.

  19. Oh, dear Colette, I am simply in AWE when I look at these beautiful pictures. Are your daisies really already blooming? Here in Virginia nature is far behind. I am excited to plant my newly purchased winter berries today. Thank you so much for sharing your life in nature with wonderful pictures, as well as your words filled with wisdom. I am sending you God’s rich blessings and a warm hug. Love, Esther Gebel

  20. As I read your words and looked at your photos this morning, I recalled my visit with you last March. Bealtaine Cottage is indeed an otherworldly sacred space co-created with the Goddess with deep appreciation, love, and care for the land. There is harmony and balance. It filled me with complete awe. My memories are still so vivid. I think of you often, Colette, and dear Patsy, who curled up so sweetly on my lap. Richest blessings!
