The Heart of the Matter

Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre is a wonderful place for any unwanted dog or cat to end up…because 97% of these poor, abandoned animals are re-homed!

Today I visited Christine Coulson, the lady whose dedicated commitment to the welfare of animals in this part of Ireland, made the sanctuary possible.

Chistine opened this light of hope for the unwanted and stray cats and dogs, back in 1997 and has worked continuously, for the protection and welfare of abandoned animals.

Back in September, I held an “Open Gardens” fundraiser for Leitrim Animal Welfare Centre and raised 610 euros…thanks to all the friends and supporters of Bealtaine Cottage, who came from all over Ireland and sent donations from all over the world!

Christine has been quite ill over these past few months and was only well enough recently for this presentation to take place.

I’m sure you’ll all raise a glass with me, in wishing this great woman, good health, now and in the future.

www.bealtainecottage.com 004The theme of hearts is compelling for me…drawn towards the heart as a symbol, not just of love, but of compassion, hope and trust.

www.bealtainecottage.com 003Celtic designs are also a passion of mine…the intricacy of the knot-work fascinates and soothes.

(I will be adding a little section to the top of the website especially for hand-made cards…X)

There is an Eden…

bealtaine cottage posterThere is an Eden…we stand upon it.

Our potential to change the environment we inhabit is boundless.

permaculture gardens at Bealtaine CottageIf we started today and worked hard for all the changes we want to see, the possible transformation is beyond our wildest dreams.

bealtaine cottage pathsWhether we have land or not, what we are capable of implementing, in terms of creating Eden, is only limited by two things…our imagination and our ability to use our energy. entrance to bealtaine“Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”
Arundhati Roy

missy in the kitchen by the stoveThis is my favourite slice of text written by Arundhati.

I have mentioned it before, but, personally, never tire of contemplating her wise words…

“Our strategy should be not only to confront empire, but to lay siege to it. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness – and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we’re being brainwashed to believe.

The corporate revolution will collapse if we refuse to buy what they are selling – their ideas, their version of history, their wars, their weapons, their notion of inevitability.

Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them.

Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing.”
Arundhati Roy, War Talk

fracking posterWe create Heaven, or allow others to create Hell, whether that be through destruction of our environment, as they are doing with fracking, for example, or allowing governments to collude with corporate monsters without challenge…they are, after all, our elected trustees.

planting the futureWe expect them to hold in trust our land, our welfare, and even our children!

We must demand accountability at every level!

Produce in the tunnel is growing well.

There is always some food to be harvested in here all year round.

This is important as I am a vegan and need to ensure a good supply of fresh, wholesome, organic food.

Kilronan Mountain lies to the north.

Apple blossom and rhubarb.

A grass path leading from the hen house over to the tunnel and compost bins, lined with Amelanchier and Lime trees.

Friendship is wonderful. There is a triad symbol to friendship…a triangle…consisting of Trust, Respect and Understanding.

Rosemary Roberts suggests that this is a Celtic Triad and forms the basis of solid friendship…”Respect yourself and others through your words and actions.”

“Trust your instincts and the intentions of those close to you.”

And finally, “When acceptance of another’s actions is difficult, stand in the path of understanding.”
