The Woodland Cottage

It is Lughnasadh, the last great festival of the Celtic Calendar! The year is tipping towards an end as Samhain marks the beginning of the new year… There has been much change here at Bealtaine Cottage as the canopy of trees has merged to form what is now truly a woodland. This evolution has happened at just the right moment in time as we have witnessed a terrifyingly hot summer and drought…the woodland gardens have come through the worst unscathed…no loss on anything! Beauty now lies between the stones of the great circle. I have flowers to plant here and…

My 100 Day Juice Fast

This was me last summer. I weighed over sixteen stones and felt encumbered by all the excess weight I was carrying. This year, on March 19, at the age of 62, I began a 100 day Juice Fast…for a great many reasons. Today I am over half way through my 100 day journey, Day 63 to be exact. I am feeling fantastic. I am in the process of writing a book all about my journey. In the meantime, here is a small selection of photos that have formed part of that journey so far.

Goddess Permaculture 39…Exposed!

Thirty nine photographs of the Goddess at her best, as we rise towards Midsummer…a mere twenty four days away! An abundance of fruit, flowers and vegetables, captured this morning on film, images from a small part of the three acres of Bealtaine Cottage, in the west of Ireland…all growing on this “poor” agricultural land. I won’t take up too much of your time with words, for I would rather you simply enjoy the images, as I have done whilst drinking my morning coffee and walking the land. Many thanks to Majella and Derek who brought me the beautiful little Oak…

Loss of Soul

We live in a society and where darkness pervades our souls. We continually invent ways to avoid and escape the darkness…one of which is endless buying of consumer goods. Within our society today there is an illness that pervades all classes and levels of wealth, known as “Soul Loss.” It sounds like “Soul Less,” and indeed many people comment on aspects of our society that are indeed soul-less! Television programmes are more and more appealing to a lower denominator within audiences, especially reality shows that can be likened to much of the entertainment provided for the masses, referred to as…

Easy Family Food Vegan Style

This is a photo blog of food…Vegan food made especially for my family, yesterday and today. The recipes are all simple and easy…like this Sweet Potato and Caramelised Red Onion Pate! The food in the first photo consists of a Green Salad with Olive Oil and Basil dressing; Spicy Roasted Veg., Bulgar Wheat and Ginger sauce…all home made in a short space of time…a delicious lunch! I hosted a dinner party on Sunday, for my grandson who is off to Canada tomorrow, (Tuesday). And baked some very easy bread! Then baked the same recipe again today! I also made a…

FaceBook

There comes a point when choices are forced upon one. I have considered leaving FaceBook ,as my time seems to be getting less and less for this website and indeed did not post for some time on there. However, I am endeavouring to continue with the site that is hugely popular…Bealtaine Cottage Magical Gardens. I must also remember…the integrity of the original has to be preserved. The original being Bealtaine Cottage and this website. I began writing, photographing and sharing Bealtaine Cottage back in 2006. I did so in good faith with the magazine, “Country Living,” only to have all…

Thank You!

I’m sharing these images of Bealtaine Cottage this evening and saying a massive “Thank You!” to you all! Many of you have been with me from the very beginning, when I first ventured into the world of blogging and began writing about my journey here at Bealtaine Cottage. I attempted in a small way, to be a voice for simple living through Permaculture, in my attempts at   helping to invest life and abundance into these three acres of Mother Earth… …working out a template for others to use in any small way. Making the mistakes, planting land, growing the…
